Calico Ghost Town

We went on vacation to Las Vegas and made a stop at Calico Ghost Town.  I was quite surprised that we LOVED it!

Calico is an old West mining town that has been around since 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. With its 500 mines, Calico produced over $20 million in silver ore over a 12-year span. When silver lost its value in the mid-1890's, Calico lost its population. The miner's packed up, loaded their mules and moved away abandoning the town that once gave them a good living. It became a "ghost town."

Calico is located between Barstow and Baker on the 15 fwy.

    Open Daily from 9am - 5pm

Price (you pay when you drive in) $6 per Adult, Youth (6-15) $5, and 5 and under FREE

Walking through the streets they have little shops, artifacts, restaurants, attractions, museums, and beautiful scenery.

They have Maggie's Mine that is $1 per person CASH ONLY

A Mystery Shack - A crooked house where the water runs uphill (we wished we had time for this)

Lucy Lane Museum - Artifacts, photographs, and documents from Calico's origin.

Gold Panning - I thought my toddler was too young for this...so didn't try it - saving it for next time!

and my toddlers favorite (of course) Calico-Odessa Railway! $3 per person CASH ONLY!

In all we had a blast!

Tips - It gets very HOT....I would avoid the summer months.  Drink plenty of water, wear good shoes for some hiking, sunblock!, and CASH!
