WINNER!!!! Guest Post - Claudine Jaenichen - Author of Camp-O-Holic and GIVEAWAY ends 10/3

    And the WINNER is

Katie who said  "i'd love the book! we were camping fanatics before we had our 2 kids (2 years & 3 months) & have been trying to be brave enough to do it again..! our fave place is joshua tree, but can't wait to do more exploring around socal with our little family!! i'm a facebook follower..:)"

First time camper?! Go El Capitan.
Best of beach camping without all the sand, El Capitan is just north of Santa Barbara. We once brought three young kids (with just us two no-parent-experience adults) babysitting for three days. Total blast. Easy day trips and sightseeing into downtown as well as amazing hikes just 10-minutes north off the 101 freeway (Gaviota Peak and Wind Cave Trails). Best campsites are in the lower range 11–25 because they are easy walks and bike rides to the beach. The beach has grass, bbq pits and both body and regular surfing areas. The nature walk is short but oh-so-very-sweet, and plan closing every evening with a sunset and a bottle of wine on the beach.

In our top two favorites (the other, Zion), Lodgepole Campground in Sequoia National Park is a mandatory visit we make every summer. Consider sleeping with the bears on this trip and being really organized about keeping your food, trash and kids clean and put away safely! Every hike is breathtaking...like a fantasy forest from your favorite childhood fairytale. Skip the 2-hour drive north to King's Canyon (we made that mistake once and wished we would have spent more time hiking and not driving). The Sequoias are much better here anyway. All hikes are pretty kid-friendly (our nephews and nieces request this trip all the freaking time!).

    My first book on camping
Whether it's your first time sleeping in a tent or you are a seasoned camper, Camp-o-holic is like having your own personal guide. It's filled with checklists and ideas on how to make the most of your camping trip, including packing for kids, babies and pets. This book has been designed to help you spend the least amount of time packing and setting up camp, and more time indulging yourself outdoors.
